Dabawenyos Halasan, Baloro appointed as PCUP commissioners

DABAWENYOS from fields of social service and education were selected to fill in vacant positions in the Presidential Commission for Urban Poor (PCUP) Commissioners.

Davao City Social Services Development Office (CSSDO) Buhangin District head Norman Baloro and 2014 Ramon Magsaysay award recipient Randy Halasan were appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte to replace PCUP officials who were fired due to informal actions.

The President named the new appointees last January 16, 2018.

100,000 voter’s IDs remain unclaimed

THE Commission on Elections (Comelec)-Davao reported that there are still more than 100,000 voter’s identification cards (IDs) remain unclaimed here in Davao City based on its December 2017 record.

Comelec-Davao election assistant Maysah Casar said there are 132,559 unclaimed voter’s IDs at the Comelec-Davao District Office on Ramon Magsaysay Avenue, and they urged voters to claim it.

Scammer' falls

AN ALLEGED scammer, who has duped several individuals through her fraud lending company and carted away millions of pesos, was arrested on Wednesday evening by authorities upon arriving in the city from Manila.

No financial aid yet for 600 families

THE Davao City Social Services and Development Office said only 600 remaining families affected by Tropical Storm Vinta are yet to receive financial assistance.

"Close to 600 families-- second batch ang wala kadawat. It is

exclusive for Barangay Tigatto, Jullivile subdivision and Jade valley homes subdivision," Buhangin District head Norman Baloro told reporters during yesterday's edition of I-Speak media forum held at Davao City Hall Conference Room.

Public warned vs harmful weight-loss products

THE Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) warned the public against buying weight loss products after investigations showed its risks to user’s health.

The agency’s post marketing surveillance (PMS) activities confirmed that products Lean ‘n Green Coffee with Green Coffee Bean, Psyllium Fiber Husk, and Garcinia Cambogia have not been issued a proper authorization in the form of certification of product registration. The three are unregistered products.

"The agency could not guarantee the quality and safety of the three products,” the FDA said in its advisory.

Firms, individuals 'supporting' NPA probed

THE 10th Infantry Division (ID) said that several companies and individuals who allegedly continue giving in to New People’s Army’s (NPA’s) extortion demand are now being investigated.

This after the NPA is now classified as a terrorist group.

Acting spokesperson of the 10th ID Captain Robert Escalona said in an interview at the sideline that an investigation is now being conducted to probe alleged financiers of the NPA terrorist.

However, he did not divulge the names of the company and individuals but he said that they already have a list.

NBI to go after drug personalities, too

THE National Bureau of Investigation-Southern Mindanao Regional Office (NBI-Semro) said the bureau is now back on track in looking for and running after those individuals and personalities involved in illegal drug trade in the region.

NBI-Semro director lawyer Mario Francisco Tonelete said aside from monitoring other crimes and violation on special laws, the bureau has also been tasked to look and run after those people involved in drugs in its area of responsibility.
