The Departure Lounge • Re: Orlando Airport
It really depends on whether any other international flights arrive around the same time as yours. If nothing else has arrived in the hour or so before you, you'll be fine. But if other flights have just beaten you to it, it's not unheard of for passengers to be kept on board until the immigration queues have eased. Luck of the draw basically.

The Baggage Hall • Trip planning to Australia next May
It's been a while since I posted anything too lengthy, but since I managed to snap up those ARN-SYD return flights in J in the recent Qatar sale (for £1300 each, would you believe?), I am in full planning mode, and thought I'd draw on your wealth of experience from you well-travelled lot for some feedback and pointers on my draft itinerary

It will be hubby and me travelling, both in our early 30s, spending 17 nights in Australia in total, and this is our first visit to Australia. Those that have suffered through some of my trip reports may remember that we enjoy a jam-packed itinerary, whilst not wanting to feel rushed, particularly as we both enjoy photography.

We narrowed down to 4 destinations: Sydney, Uluru, Cairns and Melbourne.

Day 1 - arrive in the evening, sleep
Day 2 - full day in Sydney
Day 3 - flight to Melbourne (flight time TBC as can be flexible - will be using Avios to redeem on Qantas)
Then 3 full days in & around Melbourne
Day 7 - Morning flight to Uluru (cash tickets on Jetstar as cannot find any miles redemption options). Hire car and spend next 3 days (including pm of day 10 and am of day 10) in Uluru
Day 10 - pm flight to Cairns (again redeeming Avios). Hire car and spend next 4 full days around Port Douglas/Palm Cove.
Day 15 - fly to Sydney (likely pm flight, redeeming Etihad Guest miles (from Amex MR) on Virgin Australia)
2 full days in Sydney
Day 18 – am in Sydney before flying out mid pm

Any feedback & pointers on this rough itinerary would be much appreciated indeed! I am particularly interested in your views on these 4 destinations, and whether the time I've provisionally allocated above represents a good balance.

Thank you!

The Departure Lounge • Re: MBNA Amex officially withdrawn
Slightly OT but.....

Cancelled wifes AMEX in October so the 6 months is up in April when i'll refer her. Question is i had an email saying i'd get 3000 for adding an additional card holder, now if i was to add my wife for a short period to get the 3k would this affect the 6 months between cards?

Don't forget that LimoBike isn't anything to do with Virgin. It's now an indpendent company. I believe it's just a marketing relationship, so there's nothing to get 'enhanced' away by Virgin

Of course, but it gratis with Upper? That was where i was heading.

The Departure Lounge • Re: Empty plane and now full plane
It's only because VS updated their seat maps over-night and no longer show empty seats in the other cabins. You now only see empty seats in the cabin you are flying in.

These Companies are used to picking up passengers and do not charge extra if you take a long time to get through Customs. Indeed the VS27 passengers took 3 hours to get through on the day we arrived!! Hope this helps

So glad your experience was positive this time, amazing how things can be so different from six months ago.

Hope you had a good trip to Orlando, it’s a lovely time to visit now the wet weather has almost gone. Trust your return flight was also good.

The Departure Lounge • Re: Miles needed for one way Upper Class MIA-LHR
One day I'll get it right ;) 95,000 is what the chart says - hence 47,500 one way - apologies!

I'm still gob smacked as to why VA impose an extra 32% for going indirect. I'd love to go VA, indeed I'd happily go DL indirect but not with such a dramatic price hike. This prompted me to look across the rest of the year, and some other routes, and believe it or not it's the same - with indirect DL typically being on offer costing a whopping third more :(
