MonkeyPaw on the educational upside of Class of Heroes 2 Kickstarter
ImageMonkeyPaw Games recently experimented with Kickstarter for a physical deluxe edition of the PSP game, Class of Heroes 2. The funding drive ended with $96,951 raised of the company's $500,000 goal.

"Our Kickstarter for Class of Heroes 2 didn't reach our funding bar but I think it was a great experience," MonkeyPaw CEO John Greiner told Joystiq, during an interview about the announcement of Tomba! for PSN. "Class of Heroes isn't a well-known brand but we were able to educate people about the game and its features. That will help immensely when we release the digital version."

The drive may not have worked out to get Class of Heroes 2 onto UMD, but it served in an educational capacity about more than just Class of Heroes, Greiner suggested. "This drive was the first time a console game had been pushed on Kickstarter so that also entailed teaching people why we needed $500K. Not a small sum but not really that much when you consider this was a physical, deluxe boxed version of a console game.
Left For Dead, Payday: The Heist crossover revealed

Swedish developer Overkill Software has revealed that it is working with Valve on an "in-depth collaboration".
In a post on the studio's website Ulf Andersson, game director on multiplayer FPS Payday: The Heist, writes: "We are excited to be able to confirm that an in-depth collaboration between Overkill and Valve is currently in production.
"We are working on a very cool blend of Payday and Left 4 Dead. I am sure it is so exciting that it will have some players check into the hospital before we are done."
The announcement follows the release earlier this month of a patch for Payday: The Heist which added several hints to a Left 4 Deadlink - such as the below image showing some L4D health packs.

Uncharted duo get digital PSN release

Sony is to release both Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves Game of the Year Edition as downloads on PSN.
Crucially, the prices of each have not yet been divulged. The first game was released way back in late 2007 and the sequel in 2009.
Both can routinely be found for £10 or less on the High Street, so it will be interesting to see if Sony chooses to be competitive or instead tries to charge a premium for the convenience of having both games instantly accessible from the XMD.
Indeed, in the press blurb Sony does say that “you can have two of Drake’s most epic adventures waiting on your PS3′s XMB, available at the tap of a button”.

PlayStation cloud gaming service rumoured for E3

Sony will strike a deal with OnLive or Gaikai at E3 next month for PlayStation cloud gaming, according to reports.
The platform-holder will announce a new game streaming service for 'PlayStation hardware' at the annual trade show in Los Angeles, according to VG247.
It's not clear whether this service could be for PS3 or PS Vita, both, or the next PlayStation home console.
Both OnLive and Gaikai offer cloud gaming streaming services. These allow users to stream full games or demos instantly online without the need for discs or hardware installations. Gamers can currently use devices such as PCs, TVs, smartphones, laptops and tablets to stream games online.
Last year OnLive said it had talked with Sony and Microsoft regarding a potential console collaboration.
Sony's E3 2012 press conference takes place on June 4th.

FIFA 13 promises "game-changing innovations", supports Kinect and Move

EA has outlined the ways in which it intends to build upon the fantastic success of FIFA 12 with the freshly announced FIFA 13.
The game will deliver what EA describes as “the most sophisticated artificial intelligence ever achieved for the FIFA franchise”, with tech being shared between both the PC and console versions.
Players are now programmed to think two plays ahead and are able to alter or curve their runs to make the most of potential chances. They will also deliberately pull defenders out of position to free up space for runs from teammates.
Furthermore, none other than Lionel Messi is the inspiration behind “the most comprehensive and intuitive dribbling system ever developed”. Players will change direction faster with precise dribble touches and “true 360° mobility”.
1st Touch Controls have also been introduced, meaning that every player will no longer be graced with Matthew Le Tissier-like control when receiving the ball. Instead, a player’s touch will be dictated by their skill level “creating variety and uncertainty around ball control”.
Defensive pressure and the ball’s velocity and trajectory all now play a part in how well a pass will be received, opening up the game for defensive players.
The Player Impact Engine has also entered its second generation, while a brand new Tactical Free Kick system has also been introduced that allows for up to three players to use dummy runs to create more elaborate set pieces.
Defensively this makes a difference, too, with the opposing team able to creep the wall forward or select one player to charge the ball.
There are a host of improvements to career mode, too, while the EA Sports Football Club will play a bigger part than ever. Plus, the total number of licensed teams now exceeds 500.
FIFA 13 will be released on Xbox 360, PS3, Vita, Wii, PS2, 3DS, PSP and iOS. Interestingly, some sort of compatibility is also promised for Kienct and Move owners.
“We are perfecting the best sports game in the world with innovations that capture all the drama and unpredictability of real-world football,” FIFA 13’s executive producer David Rutter stated.
“These are game-changing innovations that will revolutionize our artificial intelligence, dribbling, ball control and collisions to create a true battle for possession across the entire pitch, and deliver freedom and creativity in attack.”

PSN introduces 'pre-buy' option, pre-loads unreleased titles

Sony has introduced a Steam-like ‘pre-buy’ feature on PSN.
It allows gamers to pay for an unreleased title that is then downloaded and stored on their PS3. When release day finally arrives Sony then unlocks the title from the hard drive and it is available to play immediately.
Furthermore, the first game to use this feature – upcoming Move title Sorcery – is available to pre-buy right now from the European version of PSN.
Pre-buy installations could prove a very useful tool to publishers who wish to promote the digital versions of their titles over physical releases.
Downloading a new 9GB console game on the day of release could, quite literally, take all day. However, if said title had been previously downloaded and installed already then gamers could be very tempted with the speed and convenience of such a service.
