Girl, 9, dies after being hit on Arlington street

A 9-year-old Arlington girl who died after she was struck by a car while riding a tricycle Thursday evening was identified as Jasmine Abdelaziz, the Tarrant County medical examiner's office reported.

Police responded at about 7 p.m. to a call on an incident in the 1100 block of Angel Fire Drive, a news release from Arlington police states.

The girl, playing with a friend, was crossing the street on the tricycle when she was hit by a Honda Accord driven by a woman, the news release says. She was dragged a short distance.

Abdelaziz was taken by ambulance to Medical Center of Arlington and later flown by helicopter to Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth, where she died at 9:17 pm.

The girl lived on the same block where the incident occurred, according to the medical examiner.

The girl’s friend was not injured.

During an initial investigation, the Honda driver did not show any signs of impairment and cooperated with police, the police news release states. The death remains under investigation

This was the 7th traffic fatality in Arlington this year.
